Description

For generations, Chicago’s North Shore has occupied a singular place in American life: a collection of communities along Lake Michigan defined by remarkable architecture, enduring institutions, beautiful landscapes, and the people who have shaped them. The North Shore by Sheridan Road captures that world in a richly produced, oversized coffee-table book created to be kept, displayed, and returned to for years.

Spanning approximately 300 pages, the book brings together historic photography, contemporary imagery, and specially commissioned work to tell the story of the North Shore through its homes, gardens, clubs, schools, cultural institutions, traditions, and personalities. From grand estates and modern interiors to lakefront life, village streets, private gatherings, and the quieter details that give each community its character, the book offers both a visual record and an intimate portrait of a place that has inspired generations.

Published by JWC Media, The North Shore by Sheridan Road grows out of two decades of Sheridan Road magazine and the thousands of stories, photographs, and relationships developed since its launch in 2006. The book draws from that archive while reaching well beyond it, incorporating historical collections, local institutions, designers, photographers, families, and new editorial work created specifically for this volume.

The result is not simply a compilation of magazine pages. It is a carefully edited portrait of the North Shore as it has been, as it is today, and as it continues to evolve.

For longtime residents, it is a chance to see familiar places and traditions gathered together with a new sense of perspective. For those who have moved away, it offers a tangible connection to home. And for readers discovering the area for the first time, it is an invitation into one of the country’s most distinctive communities.

Beautifully designed and produced as a substantial physical object, The North Shore by Sheridan Road is intended for the coffee table, the library, and the family bookshelf—a book to give, to keep, and to revisit.
